WASHINGTON - With winter snow and rain less than average again, California is bracing for a year of more wildfires.

Wildfires burned nearly 10.4 million acres across the United States last year. California was particularly hard hit, with the 2020 wildfire season the largest in the state's modern history; over 4.2 million acres burned, with one fire alone exceeding 1 million acres.
