Amtrak train collides with truck near Chicago

CHICAGO (AFP) - An Amtrak train bound for Chicago collided on Friday with a truck that appeared to have gotten stuck on the tracks, United States (US) media reports said.

The train was traveling from San Antonio, Texas at the time of the collision near the town of Wilmington, about 95km south-west of Chicago, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari told the Chicago Tribune.

Amtrak did not immediately return a call from AFP. There were no injuries reported among the 203 passengers or any of the crew, Amtrak told ABC News.

The collision comes less than a month after the deadly May 12 derailment of an Amtrak train in Philadelphia.

Eight people were killed and more than 200 injured in that accident when the train, which was traveling at twice the speed limit, came off the tracks as it rounded a curve.

An investigation into the what led to the disaster is still ongoing.
