WASHINGTON - One year after the assault on the Capitol in Washington, President Joe Biden had only strong words - even blistering - for what led to the violence that shocked the country and the world.

"The former president of the United States of America has created and spread a web of lies about the 2020 election," Mr Biden rasped on the first anniversary of the Jan 6 riot, referring to Mr Donald Trump.
