WASHINGTON, DC (REUTERS) - Ever since the giant panda cub Bei Bei was born at the Smithsonian's National Zoo on Aug 22, fans have enthusiastically tracked its development.

In newly released panda cam video, they get to hear it letting out a loud sneeze as it rests alongside its mother Mei Xiang.

On Monday (Sept 28), zookeepers had a chance to weigh Bei Bei, whose name, meaning "precious treasure", was recently selected by the first ladies of the US and China, Michelle Obama and Peng Liyuan.

Zoo officials report that it now weighs a whopping four pounds (1.85kg).

Bei Bei was one of two cubs born to the zoo's female giant panda Mei Xiang and sired by Tian Tian. Bao Bao, a female born in 2013, also lives in the panda enclosure.

Tian Tian and Mei Xiang have been in Washington since 2001 when they were loaned by the China Wildlife Conservation Association.

Although the cubs were born here, they will be sent to China at around age four, according to zoo officials. A previous cub, Tai Shan, went to China in 2010.
