Turkey PM warns of police action in Istanbul park protest

ANKARA (AFP) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday raised the threat of police intervention against protesters after they refused to evacuate an Istanbul park at the centre of two weeks of mass anti-government unrest.

"We have an Istanbul rally tomorrow (Sunday)," PM Erdogan told supporters of his ruling Justice and Development party (AKP) at an election rally in the capital Ankara.

"Let me put it clearly: empty Taksim. If it is not evacuated, this country's security forces know how to evacuate there," he said, in reference to the Istanbul area where protesters are camping out in Gezi Park.
