Mr Donald Trump's national spokesman, Ms Katrina Pierson, stunned watchers of US news channel CNN by wearing a necklace made out of bullets, and followed up criticism on social media by tweeting that an aborted foetus could be next, say reports.

After Ms Pierson's television appearance on Tuesday, CNN's chief national security correspondent Jim Sciutto, who conducted the interview, followed up on Twitter and asked if there was a message behind the ammunition choker.

"Made in #Texas! Real ammo," Ms Pierson responded. "Support your local small business owners!"

But not everybody on Twitter appreciated her sartorial choice.

"Surely @KatrinaPierson wore bullet necklace on #CNN to bring attention to 90 Americans fatally shot daily #gunsense," Ms Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America tweeted to her nearly 13,000 followers.

To this, Ms Pierson replied on Wednesday: "Maybe I'll wear a fetus next time & bring awareness to 50 million aborted people that will never (get) to be on Twitter."

Ms Pierson then hit out at a Twitter user for saying that a foetus necklace "seems slightly impractical".

"Of course it will be interpreted literally. Never (mind) the point being made. Smh," she wrote.

She went on to say those who disapproved of her fashion choice were sexist - a word that's been thrown at her boss, Mr Trump, in recent days.

Called "Hurricane Katrina" by some, Ms Pierson has quickly made a name for herself as Mr Trump's national spokesman since joining the campaign in early November, said the Daily Mail.

She is known for her outspoken and often controversial comments.

She was previously a Democrat, voting for President Barack Obama in 2008, but according to Politico, the President's decision not to wear an American flag lapel pin irked Ms Pierson to the point of exploring the other side of the political aisle.
