WARSAW, Poland (AP) - Three men have gone on trial in western Poland suspected of stealing a van in Germany that contained 12 sealed coffins.
The men were arrested in Poland in October and the coffins - still containing bodies - were found soon afterwards in the woods near the western Polish city of Konin. The thieves had apparently dumped the coffins after they realized they had unwittingly stolen a van that was on its way to a crematorium.
The men who went on trial in Poznan on Tuesday could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Two more men are wanted over the theft.
