Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, the son of immigrants from Wales and Lithuania, grew up sleeping on the floor of a Boston tenement.

At age 12, he borrowed US$200 from his uncle to buy the rights to sell newspapers on a busy street corner, according to Forbes.
