A total of 1,800 red women's shoes were placed at the Plaza Mayor of Valladolid in Spain as part of an installation to mark the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women" last Wednesday.

The event, which was also marked in France, Pakistan and many other countries, is aimed at raising awareness of domestic violence in the hopes of eradicating it.
