Private dinner reflects close Trump-Abe ties

N. Korea and trade top agenda of Tokyo PM's US trip ahead of Trump's May visit to Japan

That Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Mrs Akie Abe would dine with United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on Mrs Trump's birthday yesterday in Washington underscores how deftly the Premier has managed his relationship with the mercurial President.

The two leaders have met on multiple occasions and have had dozens of phone calls. They met again yesterday for a summit during Mr Abe's official working visit.
