A parade of tall ships, surrounded by smaller, heritage ships, moving from Ijmuiden to Amsterdam in the Netherlands yesterday at the Sail Amsterdam event. The nautical festival first took place in 1975, on the 700th anniversary of the city, and has been organised every five years since. Sail Amsterdam attracts literally thousands of sailing ships and also attracts thousands of smaller yachts and boats filled with spectators. This year's event began yesterday and will last till Sunday.
