Kuwait court releases opposition leader whose arrest triggered violence

KUWAIT CITY (AFP) - A Kuwaiti court released on Monday prominent opposition leader Mussallam al-Barrak, whose arrest six days ago for allegedly insulting the judiciary triggered a series of protests in the Gulf state.

"I order the release of the defendant on a bail of 5,000 dinars (S$22,180)," said Judge Ahmad al-Athari, triggering jubilation in the small, jampacked court room.
