It is a war one rarely hears about. However, new figures released by Israel's military on Tuesday demonstrate how intensively it battles Iranian forces in Syria. Their publication is intended as a clear warning.
An electrical short was supposed to have roused thousands of Damascus residents from their sleep on Monday night. According to the official Iranian news agency Irna, it allegedly triggered a fire in a munitions depot in the mountains outside the Syrian capital. A fireball, rising into the night sky, was so large that it seemed to one city dweller "as if the sun had risen over Damascus for five seconds".
