Fighters from the militia group Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation Units) and Iraqi forces advancing through Hawija yesterday after retaking the city from fighters of the terrorist group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Iraqi forces overran the long-time insurgent bastion of Hawija, one of the last two enclaves of ISIS in Iraq yesterday, after a two-week offensive.

Only a stretch of the Euphrates Valley near the border with Syria remains to be retaken from ISIS, which has suffered defeat after defeat in Iraq this year.
