Iraqi rapid response forces firing mortar shells towards militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) during a battle in the al-Zanjili neighbourhood, north of the Old City district of Mosul in Iraq yesterday. Earlier on Monday, Iraqi aircraft dropped thousands of leaflets in the area, urging civilians to leave their homes in the ISIS-controlled neighbourhoods through safe corridors. ISIS has been retreating in Iraq since the end of 2015 in the face of US-backed government forces and Iranian-backed Shi'ite paramilitary groups.
