Iran-Israel clash raises tensions

Hostile rhetoric between Teheran and Tel Aviv is a decades-old phenomenon, but last week's tit-for-tat attacks between Israel and Iran marked a significant military escalation at a particularly sensitive time.

Yesterday, more than 50 Palestinians were reported killed in clashes with Israeli troops on the Gaza border as the United States officially recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, moving its embassy there. Both the Palestinians and the Israelis claim the city as their capital.
