Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a statement on Tuesday, advising Singaporeans to consider deferring non-essential trips to Egypt, especially the cities of Cairo, Alexandria and Suez.
Violent protests have roiled Egypt since last month as President Mohamed Mursi comes under immense pressure from the people and military to step down.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Embassy in Cairo will continue to monitor the situation in Egypt closely and would like to advise Singaporeans who are currently in Egypt to take the necessary precautions for their personal safety," says the statement.
For their own safety, Singaporeans in Egypt are also advised to register with the ministry immediately at http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/.
