Mexico's lower house endorses major oil reform

MEXICO CITY (AFP) - Mexico's lower house of Congress gave general approval on Wednesday to a disputed energy reform bill aimed at luring foreign investors and ending the state's 75-year-old oil monopoly.

Lawmakers voted 354-134 in favour of the legislation but it will debate reservations introduced by the leftist opposition before giving final approval.
