JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - The South African government said ailing icon Nelson Mandela remains in a "critical but stable" condition on Tuesday, after more than one month of intensive hospital treatment.

"Former President Nelson Mandela is still in a critical but stable condition in hospital in Pretoria where he has been receiving treatment since 8 June 2013," a statement said.
