DUBAI (REUTERS, AP) - Iranian President Hassan Rohani took the oath of office before parliament in Teheran on Sunday and is expected to name his cabinet later in day which he says will be chosen from figures across the political spectrum.

Rohani, a relatively moderate cleric, pledged to uphold the constitution and protect the official religion of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a ceremony broadcast live on state television.

Leaders and other representatives from more than 50 countries, mostly from the region, attended the ceremony.

It was the first time since Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution that foreign dignitaries attended the swearing-in ceremony of an Iranian president, underscoring Rohani's stated commitment to improving the country's foreign ties.

Rohani won a landslide victory in June 14 presidential elections.
