LONDON - A 26-year-old man on Dec 19 pleaded not guilty to murdering the wife and two daughters of a BBC sports commentator in a crossbow and knife attack, as he was also charged with rape.

Kyle Clifford, who appeared before a judge at Cambridge Crown Court in eastern England via video link from prison, was arrested in July following a manhunt.

Clifford is charged with three counts of murder, one count each of rape and false imprisonment and two counts of possession of offensive weapons, a 10-inch knife and a crossbow.

He entered not guilty pleas to all the charges except for the rape charge which was added to the indictment during the hearing. He will plead later to that charge.

Clifford is accused of killing Carol Hunt, 61, the wife of horseracing commentator John Hunt, and two of their daughters, Louise, 25, and Hannah, 28.

An earlier hearing was told Louise had been found tied up and that both she and her sister had been shot with a crossbow.

Their mother had been stabbed with a knife.

All three had been fatally attacked at their family home in the leafy commuter town of Bushey, near Watford, north-west of London. AFP
