Stakes have never been higher in Britain's elections

LONDON - Britain's political parties have fired off their first shots in what is guaranteed to be a gruelling campaign before the general election scheduled for Dec 12.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's ruling Conservatives are concentrating on their promise to pull Britain out of the European Union as quickly as possible with the slogan of "Come together to get Brexit done", as Mr Johnson puts it.
