Ukraine and Moldova have both been granted European Union candidate status, a historic move in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"Today marks a crucial step on your path towards the EU," European Council President Charles Michel wrote on Twitter on Thursday (June 23), referring to Ukraine and Moldova.
