LONDON • A British man's evening with a woman he met on dating app Tinder took a bizarre turn after he watched her get stuck while trying to retrieve her own poo.
The woman, an amateur gymnast who was not named, was left hanging upside down in the toilet window of Mr Liam Smith's shared house in Bristol.
She had "panicked" when her poo would not flush and attempted to throw it out into the garden, the BBC reported.
However, the poo - wrapped up in tissue paper - ended up stuck between two non-opening windows. She got trapped while trying to climb out of the window to retrieve it as Mr Smith looked on helplessly.
Mr Smith had to call the Avon Fire and Rescue Service for help.
The service confirmed it received a call and freed a trapped woman.
The University of Bristol student, however, was left with a £300 (S$530) bill for a broken window.
The story came to light after Mr Smith posted it on crowdfunding site GoFundMe in a bid to raise funds to pay for the repairs.
"As a postgraduate student, that is a significant chunk of my monthly budget," he explained.
He initially set a target of £200, but the campaign has since gone viral and raised more than £2,000 as of last night.
"All the best to the both of you, remember the day you made the Internet smile," wrote contributor Ed Moore on the site, who donated £10.
The additional funds will be donated to two charities - one supporting firefighters and another that builds flushing toilets in developing countries.
Recounting his experience, Mr Smith said he had met his date for a meal at Nandos before they headed back to his house for a bottle of wine and a Scientology documentary.
"We had a lovely evening, and enjoyed each other's company very much," he wrote.
About an hour in, his date left for the toilet and returned in a panic as she explained her predicament.
The poo was stuck as Mr Smith's toilet window does not open to the garden, but instead into a narrow gap separated by a non-opening double-glazed window.
"It was into this twilight zone that my date had thrown her poo," he added.
Mr Smith told the BBC he has since met her for a second date and had a "lovely night", but that it was too early to tell if "she's the one".
