A Spanish man, homeless and living on the streets for 25 years, had his life turned around after a local hair salon gave him a makeover.

The transformation of Jose Antonio, 55, was documented in a video posted on the Facebook page of La Salvajeria, a hair salon in Majorca, a popular holiday destination in Spain.

The video was posted on Tuesday (March 14) but had been shot in 2015.

Mr Antonio's long, unkempt white hair was cut, dyed and styled. Instead of his old clothes, he wore a clean white shirt, skinny red pants and leather shoes.

When the makeover was complete and he saw himself in the mirror, he said: "Oh wow! Oh my God! I don't recognise myself! This is amazing. This is me!"

Mr Antonio was working as a parking attendant and living on the streets had taken its toll on him.

He was well known to local residents, but no one could recognise him after the makeover.

The former electrician ended up homeless after suffering from depression, The Daily Mail reported.

After the makeover, he received help from a company that wished to stay anonymous and he is no longer homeless, the report said.

While his hair has greyed again, he has kept up his appearance and is looking for work.
