European leaders have reacted with barely disguised frustration at the decision of the British Parliament to reject a negotiated deal on the terms of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union.

"On the EU side, we have done all that is possible to reach an agreement," said an exasperated spokesman for EU President Donald Tusk. "It is difficult to see what more we can do."
