Europe must stem populism's march before it's too late

Far left and right parties tapping voters' frustrations and anger over social conditions

There was a collective sigh of relief after the recent European Union elections: Overall, right-wing populists did not do as well as feared, and pro-European parties still made up the clear majority in the Strasbourg Parliament.

What was mostly overlooked though was the continuing strength of the right-wing parties in a number of European regions, most notably in Italy, France, Britain, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Germany.
