EU toughens safety rules on porn platform XNXX

BRUSSELS - The EU on July 10 added pornographic website XNXX to its list of online platforms that are large enough to come under more stringent safety rules.
The platform now joins three other adult sites Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos as well as the likes of TikTok, X and Facebook, which face extra rules because they have more than 45 million monthly active users in the European Union.
XNXX informed the European Commission that its average monthly user numbers in the 27-country bloc were above the threshold.
The platform will have to prepare to comply with stricter rules, in particular to protect children, under the new EU Digital Services Act (DSA) by mid-November.
The commission said this would include taking steps to protect users online, preventing children from accessing pornographic content, including with age-verification tools, and giving researchers access to data.
XNXX will also be forced to regularly assess “systemic risks” from its platform, like the spread of illegal content or the negative impacts on users’ mental health and physical well-being.
