First formal step taken for Ukraine to join bloc

The European Union gave its blessings yesterday for Ukraine and its neighbour Moldova to be candidates to join the bloc, the first formal step in the membership process. If the membership bid is successful, it would mark the most dramatic geopolitical shift to result from Russia's invasion.
