The British economy grew by just 0.2 per cent in the first quarter of this year, a slowdown from the 0.4 per cent in the third and fourth quarters of last year, according to figures out last Friday.

Growth for the 12 months to March 31 was only 1.2 per cent, the lowest since 2012.
