Broader issues behind sacking of UK minister

It reveals bigger, bitter debate about balance between free trade and national security

As British Defence Minister, Mr Gavin Williamson caused an uproar recently when, during a speech to military specialists in central London, he called on Russia to "just shut up".

Yet shutting up is precisely what the British government now wants Mr Williamson to do, after he was fired by Prime Minister Theresa May for allegedly leaking secret government decisions allowing the Chinese company Huawei to help build Britain's future mobile communication network.
