Britain's next prime minister faces risky policy options

British Prime Minister Theresa May decided to resign and leave national politics because she realised that, far from being able to offer solutions to her country's severe challenges, she became part of the problem.

Her botched negotiations of Britain's separation from the European Union, and her evident inability to break the domestic political logjam this created, doomed her fate; she had to go if only because she represented too much failure to do any further good.
