Britain's Boris Johnson mulls over prospect of early elections

Whether he picks early polls or Brexit extension, he has full control over neither

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be called upon to decide today whether to accept an extended period of negotiations between his country and the European Union with all the conditions which leaders of the EU's remaining 27 member states may impose, or whether he should concentrate on holding an early general election.

The trouble for Mr Johnson is that he is not in full control of either decision. And regardless of the way he turns, the crisis over Britain's links to Europe is unlikely to be resolved soon.
