It once was a steady love affair: Poland and Europe. The Eastern bloc country, finally throwing off the Soviet yoke, wanted nothing more than to belong to Europe - its institutions, its people, its way of thinking.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, every poll, every political party, almost every politician, no matter left or right, was in favour of Europe. But the relationship is souring.
