Dutch prosecutors said yesterday they were "seriously" investigating a possible terrorist motive for the tram attack in the city of Utrecht that killed three people and injured five. They cited a letter found in the getaway car of the suspected gunman, 37-year-old Turkish-born Gokmen Tanis, who was arrested after a seven-hour manhunt.

An annual survey of employers found more job vacancies last year, following good economic growth in the first half. There were 63,300 job vacancies as of September last year, up from 53,100 a year earlier. More of these were for professionals, managers, executives and technicians, whose share of vacancies rose to 53 per cent last year from 49 per cent in 2017.
