EU deal grows Vietnam's stature amid tussle with China

Pact strengthens Hanoi's hand as it manages multifaceted ties with Beijing, say analysts

Vietnam recently signed a deal with the European Union that paves the way for its participation in the bloc's crisis management operations, a step-up in their defence and security cooperation.

It was the first Asean country to sign this Framework Participation Agreement (FPA) with the EU and the second Asian nation - after South Korea - to do so.
