Brazil's Lula taps Hoffmann as institutional relations minister

BRASILIA - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has chosen the head of his Workers Party, Gleisi Hoffmann, to serve as institutional relations minister, the government said in a statement on Friday.
Hoffmann, a federal lawmaker and staunch advocate of state-driven economic stimulus, will assume the key role of leading negotiations between the leftist Lula administration and Brazil's Congress, which has a conservative majority.
Hoffmann, who had previously served as former President Dilma Rousseff's chief of staff between 2011 and 2014, is set to replace Alexandre Padilha as Lula's institutional relations minister.
Padilha earlier this week was tapped to replace Nisia Trindade as health chief, as Lula reshuffles his cabinet amid a popularity crisis. REUTERS
