ROME (AFP) - The US consulate in the Italian business hub of Milan was evacuated on Tuesday after a bomb alert, media reports said.

The alert was raised after a suspicious package was found, according to the website of leading daily Corriere della Sera.

ANSA news agency said the consulate received a letter referring to an explosive device.
