The iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, lit up in pink on Friday to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The campaign, which takes place during October each year, aims to increase awareness of the disease and encourage women to take steps to detect the disease in its early stages.

The 38m-tall statue, which sits on top of Corcovado mountain, has also been bathed in different colours to celebrate other events. Take a look at the gallery above.
