Akihito expresses deep remorse over WWII


Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko bowed before an altar at the Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo yesterday during a moment of silence for the war dead at a memorial ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of the end of World War II.

It was Emperor Akihito’s last memorial service as emperor as he will abdicate on April 30 next year. The emperor expressed “deep remorse” over the conflict yesterday.
