Briton, German among fatalities in Canada climbing mishap

OTTAWA (AFP) - A man from Scotland and woman from Germany were among three climbers found dead at the bottom of a crevasse in western Canada, police said on Tuesday.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Staff Sergeant Steve LeClair told AFP that the third victim, a woman, was Canadian.

The names of the victims are being withheld until next of kin are notified.

The climbers - all in their late 20s or early 30s - were on an trip north of Canada's Whistler ski resort on Saturday.

They died in an apparent fall, according to the local coroner.

Their bodies were recovered Monday at the bottom of a gully, about 300m below Joffre Peak in the Pemberton area of British Columbia, after failing to report back to friends, who contacted authorities.
