Several countries have developed advanced capabilities in conducting - and staving off - cyber attacks.

They go by unassuming names like Dragonfly and Fancy Bear, but these state-sponsored Russian hacking groups have wreaked great havoc, spooking world powers.

Ahead of the 2016 United States presidential election, Fancy Bear unleashed a wave of sensitive documents, including internal e-mails, when it infiltrated the Democratic National Convention, where party delegates chose Mrs Hillary Clinton as their nominee for president. Last month, 12 Russian intelligence agents were charged in relation to the hacking.
