12 killed, 14 injured in eastern Mexico bus crash

VERACRUZ, Mexico (AP) - Officials say a bus traveling on a mountain road collided with a truck in thick fog and plunged over a cliff, killing 12 people and injuring 14.

The Veracruz state public safety department says the bus was traveling between the cities of Misantla and Xalapa when it hit the truck coming from the opposite direction Saturday night. The bus flipped several times and fell into a canyon about 100 meters deep.

Several deadly bus crashes in Veracruz state have killed dozens of people in recent years. Last year, a truck trailer shook loose and crashed into a bus of farmworkers, killing more than 40.
