The last four years were the hottest since global temperature records began, the UN has confirmed in an analysis that it said was a "clear sign of continuing long-term climate change". Boosted by a strong El Nino that normally tips the mercury northwards, 2016 remains the hottest year on record.

A new sales option will let home buyers book a Housing Board flat the next working day after applying, and will let them find out within a day if their application is successful. The first batch of 120 unsold flats offered under the scheme will be open for booking around the middle of the year.
