What are your legal options when your service provider exposes your data?

Victims of data breach can seek damages with a right of private action under PDPA and breach of contract under contract law.

In September, coffee chain Starbucks informed customers of a data breach that compromised their rewards membership details, including name, gender, date of birth, mobile number, e-mail addresses and residential address. About 330,000 Singaporean Starbucks customers were reportedly affected.
