As camera quality becomes a key purchasing factor, phone-makers are beefing up their mid-range offerings to boost sales

Flagship smartphones may still pack the glitziest camera technologies, but mid-range smartphones are closing the gap.

One telling indicator: Multicamera systems, previously exclusive to flagship smartphones that cost more than $1,000 two years ago, have become commonplace on mid-range smartphones.
