Every bead of sweat, bulging vein and straining sinew on the faces of the world's top athletes at the Tokyo Olympics will be beamed to viewers in ultra-sharp 8K resolution next July.

It promises to be a watershed moment for the next big thing in the television business - 8K television sets that offer four times the number of pixels as existing 4K models and hence a higher degree of visual fidelity.
