"Only one person replied, and the Mandarin lohei sayings you hear are all hers," said Mr Koh, of the friend who declined to be named.

The additional phrases include "huat ah", which means to prosper, and lohei sayings such as "wan shi ru yi" (may all things go according to your wishes) and "xue ye jin bu" (may you excel in your studies).
