As we welcome the Year of the Pig, don't count on hackers to be lazy. Instead, expect them to double down on finding new ways to reap unearned rewards.
According to a Singapore Police study, as much as $113 million was lost to scams in just the first nine months of last year. That includes scammers professing their love online (457 people lost $18.1 million); charlatans impersonating government officials (346 cases, $9.4 million cheated); illegal moneylenders (713 people conned of $1.4 million); and e-commerce cheats (1,881 cases, 80 per cent of them through Carousell, with $1.5 million losses).
