The world of e-sports has often been likened to the American Wild West over the past two decades and for good reason. You had intrepid pioneers pushing forward into uncharted territory, a propensity for huge booms or busts and a general lack of rules combining for an "anything goes" culture.

All that may soon be a thing of the past, however.
